    Solar Beach Tote

    image

A beach-tote that's lined with solar panels so it can charge your hand-held devices while you catch some rays? Outstanding!

    The Auto Mower

FREAKIN AWESOME (and probably a lawsuit waiting to happen) :D

[Via Geekologie] The Auto Mower is like a giant Roomba for your lawn. It self-charges at a docking station and then goes off and mows your lawn on its own or at a set schedule. The thing costs $2,000, but is more environmentally friendly than regular gas-powered lawnmowers. Plus regular lawn mowers don't look like they'd chase you around and try to kill you. Would you seriously want a giant robot with spinning blades roaming freely around your home?

    Pimp My Phone!

One thing you gotta say about the folks in Asia - they love their cell-phones. I found accessories there that I've never seen in the US. My Audiovox Smartphone had seen better days - it was scratched, dinged and looking pretty old. While in Singapore I came across a GMASK stall that will SKIN your phone for you - using some kind of polymer film that's only a few microns thick. You can choose from lots of different artwork and its warranty'd to protect your phone for up to 7 years. My phone went from drab to fab! The other cool toy was a plush toy that doubles as a cell-phone holder, with a hole in the bottom so you can run a connection cable. It's so simple in concept, but its going to save me from having to get a new docking station everytime I upgrade my phone (plus its fun to have on the desk).

    Dell Ultrasharp 24" LCD Monitor

OK this is my last high-tech purchase for a while! I've been jones'ing for one of these for months but after I bought the Tablet PC Sara and I agreed we'd lay off any more PC equipment. However, the other day Sara saw an ad for this where they'd dropped the price by $200 - that was enough to clinch the deal for her. What a great wife I have! :)

The monitor is amazingly sharp & bright - it almost makes it painful to turn back from it to my 6-year old CRT (I have dual monitor support). I've only found one problem - when playing WoW, when I move the mouse focus to the Taskbar the game starts to tear. However, this is easily avoidable and not a deal-breaker. Hopefully it's a driver issue that I can fix with an update. In any case, if you're looking for this kind of screen real estate (1900 x 1200 DPI native!) then give this one a whirl.

    Sony DSC-T9 Digital Camera

After many weeks of waiting, we got this baby - hot off the factory floor. We looked at a lot of cameras - Canon Powershots, Casio Exilims etc - at the end the Sony really had the best combination:
    • Size - 5/8 inch thick, 7.2 oz - fits easily in your pocket. You know what they say, "the worst picture is the one not taken."
    • Picture Quality - Zeiss lenses w/ 3x optical zoom. 6 megapixels with Super HAD CCD that allows more light to pass thru each pixel, increasing light/color sensitivity and reducing noise. (yeah the last part is marketese, but I do think the pictures we get off of it are REALLY nice).
    • High ISO 640 - Enables us to shoot more images with natural lighting (ie: less need for flash).
We took it for a spin today since the weather was so nice and we were visiting Pike Place Market (see above.)
